Binance Restarts Bitcoin, Ethereum Withdrawals After $6.3B Hack

TL;DR

  • Binance says Bitcoin, Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain withdrawals have reopened.
  • The broader 15-network rollout does not confirm every listed route is operational.
  • Replacement funding and frozen stolen assets measure different parts of the response.

November 1, 2026

Binance said Bitcoin, Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain withdrawals have reopened after its roughly $6.3 billion hack, beginning a phased restoration as Bitcoin remained below $78,000.

The exchange’s official news account reported Bitcoin’s reopening, then restoration on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. These are company-reported service updates, rather than independent confirmation that every customer transfer is completing.

Bitcoin closed October 31 at $77,423.98, up 0.285%, after trading between $76,954.57 and $77,985, according to ChartExchange historical data. Those completed-session figures describe the broader market, not a measured response to the withdrawal announcement.

Binance opens Bitcoin, Ethereum and BSC withdrawals

Binance says Ethereum withdrawals cover ETH, USDT and USDC, while BNB Smart Chain covers BNB, USDT and USDC. Its fourth recovery update had set a first-phase window of 06:00 to 09:00 UTC on November 1.

The broader list includes BTC, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Tron, Solana, XRP, Zcash, Dogecoin, TON, Polygon, Avalanche C-Chain, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism and Sui. Availability is specific to asset and network combinations: Base lists ETH and USDC, while Ethereum lists ETH, USDT and USDC.

That distinction is consequential for stablecoin holders. A token name alone does not identify the route a customer can use. A destination supporting a particular stablecoin on one chain does not automatically support the same token on another.

The announcement therefore supplies a narrower answer than a universal reopening. The useful question is whether a particular asset can leave through a compatible network and reach its intended destination. A list of supported chains cannot establish that an individual transfer has settled.

This is a material addition to the earlier reserve-funding and November 1 target: the company now reports actual restoration on three networks. Reopened access, rather than a routine increase in the replacement percentage, is the development.

Co-CEO Yi He said withdrawals were running fairly smoothly but warned of possible congestion, according to a further official news update. As of 08:11 UTC, the reviewed sources did not provide a comprehensive count of completed transfers or establish availability across all 15 networks.

Binance hack losses exceed six billion dollars

The dedicated loss-impact check at 08:11 UTC November 1 found substantial observed theft, not merely a suspected software weakness. TRM Labs estimated approximately $6.36 billion left Binance across ten blockchains, using transfer-time prices and observations through October 30 at 00:30 UTC.

TRM traced the main attack from 20:05 UTC October 29 and a second wave around 23:05 UTC involving Avalanche and Polygon. Those transactions belong to the original incident. They do not establish that a separate attack occurred during Sunday’s planned restoration.

Elliptic’s analysis puts gross theft at $6.43 billion across eleven chains. It verified $2.85 billion frozen or seized using an approximately 04:30 UTC October 31 snapshot. Its evidence includes 18,270 stolen BTC and a large Ethereum outflow, supporting a concrete loss assessment.

The different valuation times and coverage prevent a clean subtraction between the firms’ totals. Neither frozen tokens nor seized assets necessarily represent funds already returned to the exchange. The reviewed sources did not establish a final net loss or a unique count of affected customers.

Elliptic’s separate laundering update reported about $196 million distributed from a main Tron wallet to roughly 200 wallets as of October 31 at 22:41 UTC. That wallet count describes laundering infrastructure, not 200 customer victims.

The FBI’s October 31 notice attributed the theft to North Korean activity it calls TraderTraitor. The bureau said investigators observed conversions primarily into ETH and urged private-sector services to block transactions linked to identified laundering addresses.

Replacement tokens are not recovered funds

Binance’s recovery update says approximately 95% of the impacted amount has been covered through replenishment. Less-liquid tokens remain to be sourced. That describes rebuilding the exchange’s holdings, not retrieving 95% of the attackers’ proceeds.

The distinction follows the earlier company-funded token purchases. Replacement uses other resources to obtain assets owed to customers; recovery pursues stolen property. Progress in one process does not quantify the other.

Nor does asset backing alone demonstrate operational access. A customer balance can be backed while a withdrawal route remains unavailable. Conversely, a functioning withdrawal route does not reveal the full state of an exchange’s liabilities or security controls.

Binance’s preceding replenishment announcement placed the complete cryptographic reserve proof on a November 3 timetable. That remains a separate disclosure milestone from Sunday’s service rollout.

Alternative.me’s Fear & Greed Index read 34, or Fear, compared with 30 the previous day. The gauge measures sentiment, not whether Binance transfers are completing.

The next evidence to watch is expansion beyond the reopened networks, completed customer transfers and the promised reserve proof. The reviewed announcements leave later-phase dates and a comprehensive count of successful customer transfers unresolved.
