LONDON, Oct. 26, 2026
Aviva invested £50 million in a new XRP Ledger share class of its Sterling Liquidity Fund, launched with Ripple on October 26, extending institutional tokenization into sterling cash management as XRP remained below its month-earlier level.
The product gives eligible investors a digital-wallet route to an existing money market fund. Its approximately £22 billion in assets describes the entire sterling portfolio, rather than the amount newly represented on the blockchain.
Aviva reported more than £86 million, or $116 million, invested across its two tokenized share classes combined. Its £50 million sterling investment was equivalent to $66 million in the issuer’s launch announcement. Those figures use the announcement’s conversions.
Aviva said its “digital twin” structure adds a blockchain representation of holdings while preserving the conventional fund. That makes the event an expansion of fund distribution, rather than a change in what the portfolio buys.
XRP closed October 25 at $1.2946, down 0.247% for the session, according to ChartExchange’s historical table. Its September 25 close was $1.5682. These completed-session observations provide market context and do not establish a reaction to Monday’s announcement.

Aviva’s £50M investment opens sterling fund access
The new class follows Aviva’s July 29 dollar-fund launch on the same network. The earlier product represented Aviva’s first tokenized fund share class, giving the October announcement a second currency and a second underlying portfolio.
July’s release described a dollar strategy launched conventionally in 2020, targeting high-grade short-term debt and daily liquidity. It also reported Central Bank of Ireland approval for that earlier class. That approval statement concerns the July product and should not be substituted for documentation of the new sterling class.
The sterling portfolio dates to 2002. It invests in high-grade, short-term sterling debt and is structured as an Irish UCITS money market fund, according to Monday’s announcement. Tokenization changes the way an eligible investor holds a fund interest; the stated objective and investment risks remain those of the existing fund.
The distinction between a whole fund and one distribution channel also applies to JPMorgan’s recent tokenized-fund expansion onto Solana. A large established portfolio does not by itself show how much investors have committed through a newly added blockchain route.
Aviva’s two-class total does not give a complete sterling-class balance or identify how many outside investors have subscribed. The disclosed sponsor investment demonstrates committed capital, while broader customer uptake remains a separate measurement.
XRP Ledger records shares while BNY holds assets
The Bank of New York Mellon remains custodian of the portfolio assets. Komainu, an institutional digital asset custodian, and Licuido, a tokenization infrastructure provider, supported the new class. Holding the underlying securities and supporting the digital representation are distinct responsibilities.
In its October 20 analysis of money market funds, Aviva described tokenization as a change to ownership records and transfer processes. It said regulated fund tokens still require customer identification and anti-money-laundering checks. A public blockchain therefore does not make every wallet an eligible investor.
That analysis argues that integration with treasury systems can reduce manual work and improve visibility. Applied to this launch, the potential benefit is a simpler way to issue, track and service holdings. The announcement does not quantify realized processing savings, lower fees or faster cash redemptions.
Aviva’s analysis also distinguishes the fund wrapper from its underlying markets. Commercial paper, certificates of deposit and repurchase agreements can retain conventional operating arrangements even when a fund’s ownership record becomes digital. A faster ledger does not automatically speed every step between subscription and cash settlement.
Fund subscriptions do not establish XRP buying
XRPL’s documentation identifies XRP as the network’s native cryptocurrency. A fund share is a separate investment claim. The £50 million subscription does not establish that Aviva purchased that amount of XRP, and the announcement does not quantify native-token demand arising from the launch.
The same distinction separates a live investment product from BIS research using XRP Ledger to verify statistics. Both involve the ledger, but their operating status, assets and purposes differ. Neither headline alone supports a conclusion about XRP’s price.
Aviva’s money market analysis says investors can lose principal and that fund investments differ from deposits. Interest rates and an issuer’s credit quality still affect the securities behind tokenized shares. Digitizing the record does not remove those exposures.
Fear & Greed Index
Oct. 26, 2026Alternative.me’s Bitcoin-focused sentiment index read 50, or Neutral, compared with 54 a day earlier. It measures broader crypto sentiment rather than demand for Aviva’s fund.
The next evidence to watch is a dated sterling-class balance, outside subscriptions and published dealing terms. As of October 26, the reviewed announcement does not establish unrestricted secondary trading or round-the-clock cash redemption, leaving actual access and usage to be assessed through the class’s operating documents.
