NEW YORK, October 30, 2026
Coinbase reported $719 million in third-quarter profit on October 29, but adjusted net income was $78 million as crypto investment gains lifted the headline result while the exchange faced a softer trading market.
The results cover the three months ended September 30. They show a return to profitability alongside growth in newer products, with prediction markets exceeding a $200 million annualized revenue pace. That pace describes a developing business, not a quarterly revenue total.
Bitcoin’s completed October 28 UTC session closed at $81,249.31, up 0.562%, after a range of $80,270.68 to $81,857, according to ChartExchange’s historical series. These completed-session figures provide a consistent comparison for the chart below and precede the earnings release; they do not measure a market reaction to it.

BTCCoinbase’s $719 million profit includes investment gains
In its official earnings announcement, Coinbase reported adjusted EBITDA of $333 million, up 60% from the second quarter. Chief Financial Officer Alesia Haas attributed greater resilience to a broader mix of subscription services and prediction markets, rather than spot crypto trading alone.
The quarterly filing shows $715 million in net gains on crypto assets held for investment, primarily reflecting fair-value changes in Bitcoin and Ethereum. Operating income was $61.7 million. Those are separate accounting measures: investment gains affect the bottom line without representing fees paid by customers to use the exchange.
Nor does subtracting the investment gain from reported profit reproduce adjusted net income. Other investment effects and taxes also enter the comparison. The company’s adjusted measures exclude specified items and should be read alongside its standard financial statements, rather than treated as interchangeable with operating income or cash generated.
Total revenue was $1.216 billion, down 35% from a year earlier. Transaction revenue was $590.2 million, while subscription and services contributed $570.2 million. Net revenue was $1.160 billion, a different total from the headline revenue figure.
The new quarter changes the picture from Coinbase’s second-quarter loss and revenue miss. It does not establish that the exchange’s fee business recovered at the same pace as its reported profit. A crypto investment portfolio and an exchange business respond to market conditions through different channels.
Prediction markets pass a $200 million annualized pace
On the earnings call, Haas said overall crypto spot trading volume fell 10% quarter over quarter. Growth in prediction markets helped offset that decline, leaving revenue broadly flat sequentially even as the mix changed.
Prediction markets and derivatives together accounted for 25% of transaction revenue, she said. The combined figure should not be presented as prediction-market revenue alone. It also differs from the 49% share of net revenue attributed to subscription and services.
An annualized revenue pace extends recent activity over a hypothetical year. It is neither a guarantee of future sales nor evidence that the company earned that amount during the September quarter. The launch date and growth trajectory make that distinction especially relevant when comparing a new product with an established quarterly business.
Management said the product launched in February and described prediction-market spending as additional activity rather than a replacement for spot trading. That is Coinbase’s assessment of customer behavior. The call did not provide the product-level cost and margin information needed to establish how much of the new revenue becomes profit.
The broader implication is that an exchange can reduce its dependence on one kind of trading while remaining exposed to customer activity overall. Revenue diversification changes the sources of demand; it does not make demand or acquisition costs irrelevant.
USDC balances test Coinbase’s revenue diversification
Coinbase reported average USDC holdings in its products of $22 billion, up 49% from a year earlier, and trading-volume market share of 10.7%. Both are company-reported measures of adoption and reach. Neither is a direct measure of earnings retained by shareholders.
Stablecoin balances and stablecoin income also need separate treatment. More customer funds held in a product can support its economics, but balances themselves are not sales. Interest rates, revenue-sharing arrangements and customer incentives influence the income a platform retains.
Coinbase’s RLUSD rollout across three networks adds another stablecoin choice, but that October announcement occurred after the quarter ended. The Q3 USDC figures cannot establish adoption or financial results for that later launch.
The Bitcoin-focused Fear & Greed Index showed 51, or Neutral, when checked for this report. It provides broader sentiment context and does not measure Coinbase users’ willingness to trade event contracts or hold stablecoins.

Checked Oct. 30, 2026 UTCThe next earnings report should show whether the broader product mix sustains revenue and adjusted profitability. Standalone prediction-market margins and a full quarterly revenue breakdown for that product were not disclosed in the release or call reviewed here, leaving its eventual contribution to shareholder earnings unresolved.
