GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands, July 25, 2026
World Foundation said it raised an initial $52.5 million by selling WLD tokens to strategic investors led by Pantera Capital, locking every token in the round for 12 months as WLD traded near $0.348, down 7.6% over 24 hours on July 25.
The sale is funding for the nonprofit steward of the World protocol, not an equity round for Tools for Humanity, the company that develops much of the project’s hardware and software. The foundation said the WLD sold is intended for use within World Network and does not convey investment interest, profit rights or equity ownership.
CoinGecko market data showed WLD with a market capitalization of about $1.30 billion and roughly $176.0 million in 24-hour volume at the time of writing. The token had slipped from about $0.530 a month earlier, a decline of roughly 34%, placing the new lockup against a still-sensitive market for the token.
Pantera Capital led the first close, with Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, Susquehanna Crypto and other investors participating, according to the foundation’s official announcement. Pantera general partner Cosmo Jiang said the need for proof of human is becoming “acutely clear” as AI development accelerates.
The announcement arrived three years after World began operating in production and only days after Grayscale filed for a proposed Worldcoin ETF, a separate effort that would put a listed wrapper around WLD if regulators approve it. One is a locked primary-token sale to fund development; the other remains a proposed public-market product.

WLDWorld Foundation locks $52.5M WLD sale for 12 months
World Foundation did not disclose the number of WLD tokens sold, the sale price, the valuation implied by the transaction or the date when the 12-month restriction will expire. It called the transaction an initial raise and did not announce a second closing or future offering.
The lockup removes the purchased tokens from immediate secondary-market circulation, but it does not change WLD’s wider distribution schedule or eliminate trading risk. The disclosure is material because token sales can affect supply expectations even when buyers cannot sell immediately.
World said it intends to use the proceeds to bring World ID to organizations, consumers and their AI agents worldwide. In practice, World ID is a credential designed to let someone prove they are a unique human without disclosing their identity; the company says a one-time verification at an Orb creates the credential, which is stored on the user’s phone.
That use case is already appearing in crypto-payment and agent discussions. Daily Crypto Briefs previously covered Coinbase’s World ID-linked human verification flow, where the question was whether a payment or automated action could be tied to a real person without exposing personal data.
World ID expansion moves past network building
The foundation said more than 39 million people have joined World Network, more than 18 million humans have completed Orb verification and the network has generated more than 475 million World ID proofs since launch. Those are company-reported adoption figures, rather than independently audited user or revenue measures.
World says the next phase is integrations and utility, including use by consumer platforms, enterprise services and AI-agent systems. Its announcement listed Zoom, DocuSign, Okta, Vercel and Tinder among platforms where World ID integrations are under way, though it did not disclose rollout sizes, commercial terms or revenue tied to those relationships.
World ID 4.0 is intended for higher-scale integrations and allows developers to build additional credentials in the World ID stack using zero-knowledge proofs, according to the announcement. That technical model is different from simply signing in with a social account: it is meant to attest to uniqueness while limiting the personal data a service receives.
The push comes as the crypto sector is also testing agent-led activity more broadly. Our recent look at AI agents’ on-chain footprint showed why services may seek a way to distinguish automated wallets and real users as machine-driven interactions become more common.
WLD supply and privacy scrutiny remain key
The WLD lockup is a constraint on this particular sale, not a declaration that no tokens will enter circulation from elsewhere. World’s earlier ETF filing coverage highlighted token-release risk, and the foundation’s new announcement does not amend that supply schedule or provide a fresh full tokenomics breakdown.
World’s biometric-verification model also remains subject to scrutiny. The project has faced investigations, restrictions or enforcement attention in several jurisdictions over privacy, consent and data protection issues, while World has said it continues to engage with regulators. The funding announcement did not identify new regulatory approvals, settlements or changes to the Orb-verification process.
For the token market, the immediate facts are narrower than the broader AI identity narrative: $52.5 million of WLD was sold with a one-year restriction, and the issuer says the proceeds will support product expansion. The effect on demand, future circulation and integration revenue was not disclosed.
The next concrete checkpoints are whether World announces another close, the terms and timing of the lockup’s release, new World ID deployments and any updated regulatory decisions. Alternative.me’s Crypto Fear and Greed Index stood at 27, or Fear, on July 25, a reminder that the funding news is landing in a cautious broader crypto market.
