ABU DHABI, November 2, 2026
Animoca Brands announced final Abu Dhabi fund-management permission Monday, disclosing a licence effective October 13 that excludes retail clients as the blockchain investor expands its institutional business.
The authorization belongs to Animoca Asset Management (AD) Limited, a subsidiary, and covers managing collective investment funds in or from Abu Dhabi Global Market. The November 2 announcement makes a completed regulatory step public; it does not identify a newly opened investment product.
Bitcoin closed November 1 at $78,230.55, up 1.042%, after trading between $77,370 and $78,528, according to ChartExchange’s historical prices. Those completed-session figures provide the broader crypto backdrop, rather than evidence of a response to Animoca’s disclosure.

The FSRA’s public-register entry lists permission number 250097 as active, with both the permission and regulated activity dated October 13, 2026. The regulator is ADGM’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority.
Two limitations define the authorization. The subsidiary is not permitted to deal with Retail Clients, as defined in the Conduct of Business Rulebook, or to hold or control Client Assets. Those conditions are material to interpreting the scope of Monday’s news.
A fund manager makes investment decisions for a pooled vehicle. Permission to perform that role should not be read as authorization for every service associated with crypto investing, or as an invitation for the general public to deposit tokens with the company.
In its announcement, Animoca attributed its institutional ambitions to connecting traditional finance with decentralized networks, tokenized assets and artificial-intelligence applications. Minh Do, senior executive officer and director of the subsidiary, described the permission as enabling regulated fund management linking institutional capital with digital assets.
The exact regulated entity remains important. The parent company’s brand can encompass investment, technology and advisory businesses, while the register identifies the subsidiary responsible for this particular activity. A prospective counterparty needs that distinction when assessing a mandate.
Final permission follows November 2025 approval
Animoca’s November 24, 2025 in-principle announcement, hosted by ADGM, explicitly made operation conditional on fulfilling requirements and obtaining final regulatory approval. ADGM labels that page an external communication rather than its own official statement.
Monday’s disclosure therefore advances an existing application into a final-permission stage. It should not be described as the group’s first expression of interest in Abu Dhabi or as an authorization first effective on November 2.
That earlier announcement described an existing Dubai presence and three connected activities: Web3 businesses, digital-asset advisory services and investment management. The Abu Dhabi permission adds a defined regulated capability to that regional strategy.
The distinction between permissions also appears in Coinbase’s earlier Abu Dhabi tokenization plans, which involved arranging investment deals and custody. Similar institutional ambitions can involve different authorized activities; one company’s scope cannot be assumed from another’s.
Animoca’s official press kit describes a Hong Kong-headquartered company founded in 2014, with a portfolio spanning more than 600 companies and digital assets. It identifies businesses including The Sandbox, Moca Network and Open Campus, illustrating the range of its blockchain interests.
That existing portfolio is distinct from the assets of any fund managed by the licensed subsidiary. The permission announcement does not establish that those investments have been transferred into a new pooled vehicle.
Abu Dhabi fund growth sets the institutional backdrop
ADGM’s September 8 first-half business update reported 190 fund and asset managers, compared with 154 a year earlier. It counted 276 funds managed from the jurisdiction, up from 209, and reported 54% growth in assets under management.
Those figures describe the financial centre’s wider business, rather than capital committed to Animoca. They place its entry into an established asset-management market without providing a measure of demand for any future Animoca vehicle.
The same separation applies to blockchain activity. Rising tokenized-stock transfer volumes measure movement of instruments between accounts, while a fund’s assets, subscriptions and investment mandate answer different questions. Neither activity automatically supplies the other with committed money.
For an allocator, the next meaningful documents would identify the fund, permitted investments, valuation process, custody arrangements and withdrawal terms. Those details would make it possible to assess liquidity and operating responsibilities beyond the manager’s permission.
Broader market sentiment remained cautious: Alternative.me’s index showed 37, or Fear, on November 2, compared with 34 the previous day. The reading measures market sentiment, not demand for this manager.
Fear & Greed Index
Nov. 2, 2026As of November 2, the reviewed company release did not disclose a named fund, target size, capital raised or launch date. A product announcement and its governing terms remain the next evidence needed to assess how the new permission translates into an investable offering.
