HONG KONG, Aug. 16, 2026
Avenir Tech reported a net reduction of nearly 5 million shares in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF during the second quarter, its latest SEC filing showed, leaving the investor with 13.29 million IBIT shares valued at $442.4 million at June 30.
The Hong Kong-based investment firm listed 18.28 million IBIT shares worth $702.2 million at March 31. The 4,986,403-share difference equals a 27.3% lower quarter-end holding, while the reported value fell by $259.8 million, or 37.0%, across the three months.
The Aug. 14 information table is a snapshot of specified U.S.-listed securities at June 30. It shows the net position was lower; it does not identify Avenir’s trade dates, execution prices, counterparties or investment rationale.
The change arrives as Bitcoin traded near $63,043 early Sunday, roughly 1.2% below its $63,792 level a month earlier, according to The Block’s market page. That market comparison is context, not evidence that Avenir’s reported position change caused the price move.

BTCAvenir Reports 5M-Share IBIT Reduction
The March 31 information table recorded 18,276,100 IBIT shares. The June 30 report listed 13,289,697. Both entries identify the same iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF share class and CUSIP, making the quarter-end comparison direct.
The filing therefore supports a narrow conclusion: Avenir held fewer IBIT shares at the end of June than at the end of March. It does not prove that a single block sale occurred, that the reduction happened on one day, or that Avenir itself directed every transaction that changed the reported position.
BlackRock says IBIT seeks to reflect Bitcoin’s price through a listed trust, allowing investors to access the asset through brokerage accounts rather than report direct Bitcoin custody. A lower reported IBIT share count is consequently a change in the firm’s disclosed ETF exposure, not on-chain evidence of a Bitcoin transfer.
The filing adds a different institutional signal to Daily Crypto Briefs’ report that Paul Tudor Jones increased his BlackRock Bitcoin ETF stake. Both are delayed, manager-specific snapshots rather than a daily measure of fund demand, and neither disclosure says how the manager views Bitcoin’s next move.
IBIT Value Fell $259.8M as Shares Declined
Avenir’s reported IBIT value fell from $702,167,762 at March 31 to $442,414,014 at June 30. The value decline was steeper than the share-count decline because the filing marks the remaining shares at the second-quarter-end price.
The comparison should not be read as a $259.8 million cash withdrawal. A Form 13F reports a portfolio’s value on the reporting date and its share count, not the prices paid, sale proceeds, realized gains or losses, or cash held after any transaction.
Other reported positions add context. Avenir kept the same quarter-end counts in the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF, Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, Solana Co. and iShares Ethereum Trust. Its IBIT figure was the material change among those holdings in the two tables, while two small March IBIT put-option positions no longer appeared in the June table.
University disclosures filed in the same reporting window show why the distinction matters. Harvard’s latest 13F showed an unchanged IBIT share count after earlier reductions; Avenir’s filing instead shows a substantially smaller net share count. Neither report supplies an intraday trading ledger or an explanation for the managers’ decisions.
A 13F Does Not Identify the Seller’s Timing
Form 13F is a quarterly disclosure for institutional investment managers with qualifying holdings. It excludes much of a firm’s financial picture, including cash, private investments, non-U.S. securities, liabilities and most information needed to reconstruct individual trades.
The report was filed Aug. 14, about six weeks after the June 30 snapshot. It cannot establish whether the IBIT share count changed before or after Bitcoin’s later moves, whether it was adjusted through multiple trades, or whether hedges or other exposure existed outside the listed securities.
Readers should also separate a manager’s 13F from activity in the fund itself. Avenir’s lower quarter-end holding does not by itself mean BlackRock sold Bitcoin or that IBIT had a matching net redemption. Daily fund flows and the trust’s holdings address different mechanisms, as recent coverage of Bitcoin ETF outflows has shown.
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index was at 34, or Fear, on Aug. 16. The gauge reflects broad market sentiment, not Avenir’s portfolio rationale or the outcome of its reported IBIT reduction.
Fear & Greed Index
Aug. 16, 2026The next Avenir 13F can show another quarter-end position, but the current filing offers no basis to infer a future purchase or sale. The confirmed fact is narrower: its reported IBIT holding was 4,986,403 shares lower at June 30 than it was three months earlier.
