TL;DR

  • Onchain Lens and Lookonchain reported a wallet selling approximately 2,785 ETH for $6.42 million in USDS on October 26.
  • Etherscan shows five CoW Swap order transactions between 02:15 and 03:09 UTC, consistent with the reported disposal.
  • Lookonchain describes the wallet as Foundation-linked. Historical connections do not independently establish current Foundation control or its reason for selling.

LONDON, Oct. 26, 2026

An Ethereum Foundation-linked wallet sold approximately 2,785 ETH for about $6.42 million in USDS on October 26, blockchain analysts reported, adding a fresh disposal to scrutiny of institutional ether holdings as the token traded below its month-earlier levels.

Onchain Lens reported the conversion through CoW Swap at 03:18 UTC and identified the selling address. Lookonchain’s separate post described it as a wallet linked to the Foundation and put the average sale price near $2,304.

The distinction in attribution is significant. The transactions are publicly visible, but the reviewed sources do not establish that the Foundation currently controls the address. No Foundation confirmation of this sale or explanation of its purpose was identified as of 12:08 UTC.

Ether closed October 25 at $2,326.75, down 1.215% for that session, after trading between $2,307.71 and $2,372.40, according to ChartExchange’s historical table. That completed session preceded the reported sale and cannot demonstrate a reaction to it.

Ethereum-linked wallet placed five CoW Swap orders

The address identified by both analysts is 0x5CBC6299faB3320E7758ac97fd4CA45E5B722059. Its Etherscan transaction history shows five interactions labeled Create Order with CoW Swap Eth Flow between 02:15:23 and 03:09:23 UTC.

The displayed order values were approximately 185, 500, 600, 1,000 and 500 ETH. The first is shown with additional decimals, so the widely reported 2,785 ETH should be read as rounded rather than an exact accounting total.

The final 500 ETH order transaction provides a directly inspectable example. The approximately 54-minute order window supports a sequence of transactions rather than a single transfer of the entire amount.

Order creation and settlement are separate steps. CoW Protocol’s documentation explains that orders are aggregated and competing execution providers, called solvers, bid to fulfill them. The order list corroborates the route and scale; the completed-sale amount remains attributed to the analysts.

The reported proceeds were USDS, rather than a bank cash balance. Sky’s USDS documentation describes the on-chain token and its one-for-one conversion route with DAI. A stablecoin conversion alone does not show that money was withdrawn to a bank or spent.

Onchain Lens called the seller the Ethereum Foundation. Lookonchain used the more qualified description of a Foundation-linked wallet. Daily Crypto Briefs uses that narrower attribution because a historical relationship does not establish who authorized today’s trades.

Lookonchain’s post also points back to its October 12 report of two linked wallets depositing 4,393 ETH, then valued around $11.13 million, into Kraken. The earlier report said those wallets originally received ether from the Foundation a decade ago.

That history provides context for the analysts’ monitoring, but a deposit into an exchange is not independently a completed sale. Nor does the elapsed time establish continuous ownership. The October 26 swap report is a new transaction event, rather than a recalculation of the earlier deposit’s dollar value.

The same evidentiary distinction applies to earlier Foundation unstaking coverage. Unlocking an asset, moving it to a trading venue and converting it into another asset are different actions. Each supports a different conclusion about liquidity and exposure.

No verified basis was identified for calling this a security incident, a forced liquidation or a disposal of the Foundation’s entire treasury. The amount alone also cannot establish how much ether the current wallet controller holds elsewhere.

Ethereum treasury policy provides context, not a sale explanation

The Foundation’s June 2025 treasury policy says it periodically measures fiat-denominated reserves against its operating buffer to determine potential ETH sales over the next three months. It says those sales can use fiat off-ramps or on-chain swaps.

That published framework explains why an institution holding ether might also acquire stablecoins. It does not confirm this address’s current owner, show that the October 26 transaction implements the policy, or disclose how these particular proceeds will be used.

The trading activity is also separate from the postponed Glamsterdam rehearsal on Hoodi. A wallet transaction does not change an upgrade schedule, and the reviewed evidence establishes no connection between the two events.

Fear & Greed Index

Oct. 26, 2026
50 Neutral

Alternative.me’s Fear & Greed Index read 50, or Neutral, against 54 a day earlier. That broader sentiment reading does not measure the wallet’s motive or isolate the sale’s effect on ETH.

The next meaningful evidence would be confirmation of current wallet control and a reconciliation of completed settlements and proceeds. Until then, the supported account is a rounded $6.42 million sale reported by two analytics providers, with a visible order trail and an unresolved ownership attribution.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much ETH did the Ethereum Foundation-linked wallet sell?

Onchain Lens and Lookonchain reported approximately 2,785 ETH exchanged for about $6.42 million in USDS on October 26, 2026.

Did the Ethereum Foundation confirm the sale?

No confirmation of current wallet control or the transaction's purpose was identified in the sources reviewed. Lookonchain describes the address as Foundation-linked, which is a narrower claim than confirmed current ownership.

When did the ETH sale activity occur?

Etherscan shows five CoW Swap Eth Flow order transactions between 02:15:23 and 03:09:23 UTC on October 26. Order creation records and completed settlements are distinct stages.

Was the ETH converted into cash?

The analysts reported proceeds in USDS, a dollar-linked on-chain stablecoin. That does not establish a bank withdrawal or payment of operating expenses.

Did the wallet sale cause Ethereum's price decline?

The reviewed evidence does not establish that. Ether had already closed October 25 lower, before the October 26 order activity.
