Kraken will replace 176 native trading pairs with synthetic markets beginning November 6, canceling outstanding orders as the exchange changes how customers execute selected crypto trades.
The change affects trading routes rather than the availability of the underlying coins. Customers using the replacement markets will need fresh orders, and even limit orders will attract taker fees.
Bitcoin closed the October 27 UTC session at $80,795.08, up 0.983%, after a $79,365.93 to $81,441.52 range, according to ChartExchange historical prices. Those completed-session figures describe the broader market, rather than a reaction to Kraken’s announcement.
Kraken’s October 27 status notice says affected pairs enter cancel-only mode at 14:00 UTC on November 6. Remaining orders will be canceled during the November 6 to 9 removal window; synthetic replacements are scheduled by the end of November 9.

BTCKraken orders face a November 6 cutoff
The migration support page, updated October 26, lists affected markets including AAVE/BTC, ADA/AUD, BTC/DAI and ETH/JPY. The precise pair matters: an asset can trade against several different currencies on the same exchange.
Kraken says balances are unaffected, assets remain on the platform and margin pairs are excluded. Customers without open orders on affected pairs need take no action.
The operational consequence falls on standing instructions. A previously entered buy or sell order will not automatically become an instruction on the replacement market. Customers wishing to maintain that trading intention must submit it again after listing.
There is a discrepancy in Kraken’s scheduling display. The status-page heading shows a November 10 maintenance window, while its detailed text and the support timeline specify November 6 for cancel-only trading and November 9 for replacement listings. The later heading should not be treated as an extension of the cancellation deadline.
This is separate from Kraken’s earlier increase in Bitcoin margin leverage. That announcement changed borrowing capacity for eligible traders; this notice changes selected spot execution routes and explicitly leaves margin pairs outside its scope.
Synthetic limit orders lose maker pricing
Kraken’s synthetic-pair rules describe a conversion routed through two markets sharing a common currency. Both underlying trades execute together inside the matching engine, producing one customer-facing trade and one taker fee.
A synthetic limit order sets a price boundary without resting in a native order book. Execution waits for sufficient underlying liquidity at that price or better. Orders fill completely; partial fills are unavailable, as are post-only instructions and other advanced order attributes.
The fee difference is concrete. Kraken’s published spot schedule showed Tier 1 rates of 0.40% for makers and 0.80% for takers when checked October 28. On a hypothetical $1,000 trade qualifying for those rates, that is $4 versus $8, calculated before spread effects.
That example compares fee classifications, rather than promising the same price or execution. A native limit order that immediately takes liquidity can already pay a taker fee. The lost opportunity is maker pricing for an order that otherwise could have rested in the book.
For a trader comparing an old standing order with its replacement, matching the limit price alone is insufficient. The fee can change the net proceeds from a sale or the total cost of a purchase. The absence of partial fills also means the whole requested quantity needs executable liquidity before the order can complete. These are execution constraints, not evidence that every affected customer will pay more overall.
Kraken determines its published cross-platform tiers using the better qualifying result from spot volume or assets on platform. Some pairs have separate schedules, so the introductory example does not establish every customer’s bill. Traders need the applicable pair, tier and execution classification to calculate costs.
Replacement pricing depends on two order books
The effective spread combines the two underlying books, with no additional synthetic spread markup, according to Kraken. A thin native market may compare favorably with a route through deeper books, while a deep native market may offer better pricing. A single fee therefore does not guarantee the lowest total execution cost.
The exchange’s documentation, updated October 8, already described more than 10,000 synthetic pairs. November’s migration applies that existing model to selected native markets rather than introducing synthetic trading for the first time. Regional asset restrictions still apply.
Kraken has also expanded its business through the proposed Saldo Bank acquisition. The pair migration is an immediate trading-workflow issue, separate from that longer banking strategy and its pending approvals.
Broader sentiment was neutral on October 28: Alternative.me’s Fear and Greed Index read 51, compared with 48 the previous day. The Bitcoin-focused indicator does not measure the quality of Kraken’s replacement liquidity.

Oct. 28, 2026Kraken has not disclosed expected execution savings or customer-level cost changes for the migration. The next checks are whether its timetable is clarified and whether replacement pairs become available as scheduled, with the November 6 cutoff remaining the published deadline for managing existing orders.
