SAN FRANCISCO, October 15, 2026
Ripple Prime launched round-the-clock institutional swaps across more than 100 traditional-asset reference markets Thursday, accepting RLUSD collateral as crypto-linked trading expands beyond digital tokens.
The October 15 announcement covers equities, equity indices, exchange-traded funds, metals, energy and foreign exchange. Virtu is among clients already trading, Ripple said, giving the launch a named participant rather than only a prospective customer base.
ChartExchange’s composite XRP history showed a completed October 14 close of $1.3300, down 2.564%, with a $1.3182 to $1.3872 range. Those figures precede Thursday’s announcement and provide market context without establishing a launch-driven price reaction.
Michael Higgins, Ripple Prime’s international chief executive, said the service gives institutions continuous exposure to equities, commodities and currencies alongside the brokerage’s existing collateral and risk-management framework. Trading and settlement run through weekends, according to Ripple.
The launch expands a relationship established when Ripple Prime added Hyperliquid support on February 4. It also follows Wednesday’s separate DriveWealth RLUSD settlement agreement, which addressed brokerage funding and infrastructure rather than this derivatives product.

Ripple Prime swaps reference Hyperliquid markets
The transaction has two distinct layers. Institutions trade swaps with Ripple Prime acting as principal, while those swaps reference perpetual futures listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid. Access through the broker therefore does not mean each institutional client directly operates a wallet on the underlying venue.
Trade.xyz’s contract overview describes perpetuals as derivatives providing price exposure without a fixed expiry. Funding payments help align their prices with a reference value, while margin and liquidation rules support leveraged positions. Avoiding an expiry date does not eliminate ongoing holding costs.
Its documentation assigns matching, funding transfers and liquidation mechanics to HyperCore, Hyperliquid’s trading infrastructure. Trade.xyz supplies market-specific pricing inputs and parameters. Those roles help distinguish the venue running the underlying market from the broker facing the institutional customer.
Ripple Prime describes itself as a non-bank prime broker serving institutions rather than retail customers. Its service bundles clearing, financing and risk management across markets. That commercial relationship is separate from the non-custodial trading interface through which someone might otherwise access the underlying venue.
The asset labels also require care. A stock-linked perpetual is not a share delivered into a securities account, and a metals-linked swap does not deliver bullion. Trade.xyz’s rights disclosure expressly excludes ownership, voting, dividend and delivery rights in the referenced assets.
The distinction resembles Coinbase’s earlier pre-IPO perpetual markets, where exposure to a company’s valuation did not establish ownership of its shares. The relevant comparison is the contractual return and settlement method, rather than the familiar company or commodity name appearing on a trading screen.
RLUSD collateral differs from USDC settlement
Ripple says clients can use RLUSD as collateral for the new swaps, with availability varying by jurisdiction. Separately, Trade.xyz specifies that its underlying xyz perpetual contracts are margined and settled in USDC. Acceptance at the brokerage layer does not establish that Hyperliquid’s referenced contracts have switched settlement tokens.
Trade.xyz describes a further currency distinction: reference prices are denominated in U.S. dollars, but profits and losses are cash-settled in USDC without a USDC-to-dollar conversion adjustment. A stablecoin balance and a dollar bank balance are therefore different settlement assets, even when their quoted values are close.
Ripple’s institutional brokerage page describes a single collateral pool supporting positions across digital assets, currencies, fixed income and derivatives. Instead of separately funding each venue, customers can manage exposures through one brokerage relationship and consolidated risk controls.
The platform also distinguishes prime brokerage from custody. Ripple Custody is a separate product that can work alongside the broker, including through arrangements involving a third-party custodian. A unified trading relationship does not, by itself, specify where every customer’s pledged assets will be held.
Cross-margining allows eligible offsetting exposures to reduce collateral requirements. It does not erase market losses or guarantee that every position receives an offset. Under Trade.xyz’s separately documented venue rules, losses on one cross-margined position can consume collateral supporting others; Ripple Prime’s customer arrangements require their own assessment.
The broader trend includes Kraken’s use of xStocks as futures collateral, although the assets and customer terms differ. In both cases, the useful distinction is between holding an asset, pledging it as margin and choosing the asset used to settle a trade.
Ripple completed its Hidden Road acquisition in October 2025 and renamed the business Ripple Prime. At that time, it already described RLUSD collateral use in some prime-brokerage products. Thursday’s development extends an existing collateral strategy to the newly announced RWA swap offering.
RWA weekend trading changes price discovery
Continuous derivatives access leaves a practical question when a referenced stock exchange is closed: which price supports funding and margin? Trade.xyz’s oracle methodology prioritizes externally derived pricing when inputs are available and uses an internal process when they are not.
That internal process gradually adjusts the previous reference using executable order-book information. When external inputs resume, the oracle returns to the externally derived price on the next update. A weekend contract price can therefore evolve even while the underlying cash market has no new exchange trade.
The mechanics documentation separates the oracle reference from the mark price used for profit and loss, margin, liquidation and trigger orders. Consequently, a last-traded price displayed on a screen is not necessarily the price determining an account’s margin position. The launch does not disclose how Ripple Prime translates every underlying pricing input into client-specific terms.
The resulting exposure can differ from the last quoted stock price. Trade.xyz warns that thinner internal liquidity, wider spreads and reopening gaps can affect funding, margin and liquidations. The ability to trade continuously does not establish continuous liquidity in the underlying asset or identical execution conditions across trading sessions.
Ripple Prime’s own product access remains institutional. The announcement identifies its CIV BVI license as the current offering route and says additional regions are intended, without naming them or giving dates. It does not publish a complete fee schedule, client-specific leverage limits, collateral haircuts or product trading volumes.
Fear & Greed Index
October 15, 2026Alternative.me showed a neutral reading of 53, versus 62 the previous day, when checked at 18:00 UTC. The index measures broad crypto sentiment, rather than demand for Ripple Prime’s swaps.
The next disclosures to watch are regional eligibility, detailed contract and collateral terms, and measurable adoption beyond the named client. The launch establishes a live institutional access route; its scale and economics will depend on those operating details.

Frequently Asked Questions
What did Ripple Prime launch on October 15?
Institutional RWA perpetual swaps referencing Trade.xyz perpetual futures on Hyperliquid, covering more than 100 reference markets across equities, indices, ETFs, metals, energy and foreign exchange. Ripple says Virtu is already trading.
Do Ripple Prime RWA swaps give investors stock ownership?
The products provide derivatives exposure. Trade.xyz's underlying perpetuals do not confer share ownership, voting rights, dividends or delivery rights in the referenced assets.
Is RLUSD now the settlement token for Trade.xyz perpetuals?
Ripple says RLUSD can be used as collateral for its institutional swaps, subject to jurisdiction. Trade.xyz's documentation separately specifies USDC margin and settlement for its underlying xyz perpetuals.
Can retail traders access the new Ripple Prime swaps?
Ripple Prime serves institutions. The launch identifies its CIV BVI license as the initial offering route and does not establish universal retail access or a timetable for additional regions.
How can RWA perpetuals trade when stock exchanges are closed?
Trade.xyz uses external pricing when available and an internal order-book-based oracle process when external inputs are unavailable. Continuous derivative trading does not mean the underlying stock exchange is open or that prices and liquidity stay identical.
