TL;DR

  • Upbit opened Ripple USD, or RLUSD, trading in its KRW, BTC and USDT markets on July 28.
  • CoinGecko listed RLUSD at 1.00 dollar, with a market capitalization near 1.59 billion dollars and 24-hour volume near 142.7 million dollars.
  • The launch gives Korean users a direct won pair for Ripple's dollar-pegged token, but Upbit had not published launch-day liquidity data.
  • RLUSD's one-month price change was flat, which is consistent with a token designed to track the U.S. dollar rather than trade like XRP.

SEOUL, July 28, 2026

Upbit opened Ripple USD trading in South Korea on Tuesday across KRW, BTC and USDT markets, giving the dollar-pegged RLUSD token a direct won venue as CoinGecko put its market capitalization near $1.59 billion and 24-hour volume near $142.7 million.

The South Korean exchange said trading was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. local time on July 28. The move expands exchange access for Ripple’s stablecoin rather than changing the economics of XRP, the market-priced asset native to the XRP Ledger.

CoinGecko’s RLUSD page showed the token at $1.00, unchanged over 24 hours, seven days and 30 days. It listed about 1.589 billion RLUSD in circulating supply, a $1.589 billion market capitalization and $142.7 million in global trading volume, figures that predate any complete assessment of the new Upbit market’s activity.

In its official market-support post, Upbit said, “Market Support Ripple USD (RLUSD),” and specified KRW, BTC and USDT as the supported markets. The exchange did not immediately publish launch-day order-book depth, volumes, deposit limits or a market-quality target.

The listing follows Ripple’s July 23 rollout of Ripple Mint, an institutional interface for minting, redemption and cross-chain management. It also lands after RLUSD expanded beyond its original networks through Wormhole’s multichain transfer framework, making venue distribution a more immediate question than technical reach.

The practical significance is in the KRW pair. A won market can reduce the number of conversion steps for users who want to enter or exit a dollar-linked asset, but the benefit depends on live liquidity, spreads and the exchange’s deposit and withdrawal operations.

Upbit Opens RLUSD Trading Across Three Markets

Upbit’s launch gives RLUSD three quoting routes at once. The KRW market is the retail-facing local-currency route, while the BTC and USDT pairs let traders compare the stablecoin against two widely used crypto settlement assets.

The announcement should not be read as a new issue of RLUSD. Listing support makes an existing token tradable on a venue; it does not itself increase its reserves, circulating supply or redemption capacity. Ripple’s stablecoin overview says RLUSD is designed to maintain a one-to-one value with the U.S. dollar and is backed by cash, U.S. Treasury bills and cash equivalents.

That distinction is important for a stablecoin. A user buying RLUSD on an exchange relies on the venue’s available offers and operational controls, while a direct issuer redemption depends on separate eligibility and account arrangements. Upbit’s notice did not detail how much RLUSD would be available in its initial books or which market makers would quote it.

The three-pair setup also does not mean all Korean users will experience the same pricing. The KRW market can reflect local demand, while BTC and USDT pairs are shaped by their own reference prices, fees and transfer frictions. Any sustained difference among them would be a market observation, not proof that the token has changed its dollar target.

Ripple USD Listing Adds a Direct Won Route

RLUSD’s exchange push is occurring alongside a broader distribution campaign. Ripple says the token is available on the XRP Ledger, Ethereum and other supported blockchains, and its multichain work has created more paths for an exchange or payment firm to move the same stable-value asset between networks.

Daily Crypto Briefs recently reported on Ripple’s planned RLUSD payment integration with Flutterwave. That project and the Upbit listing cover different ends of the market: one is aimed at payment corridors, while the other gives traders a new centralized-exchange venue.

The direct KRW pair is the most concrete local change. Users do not need to first obtain BTC or USDT merely to find an RLUSD market on Upbit, although that does not establish that the KRW pair will be the cheapest or deepest route at every hour.

For Ripple, a major local-currency venue can support the token’s recognition without proving business adoption. Stablecoin usage is broader than trading, but exchange liquidity is often the first visible test of whether a token can be acquired and sold without excessive friction.

Upbit RLUSD Liquidity Is the Next Test

The early data point to watch is not RLUSD’s nominal price. A dollar stablecoin should usually trade close to $1.00, and CoinGecko’s one-month reading was flat. The more revealing measures are quoted spreads, order-book depth, turnover in the KRW pair and whether deposits and withdrawals operate without interruption.

That is particularly relevant when the overall market is guarded. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index stood at 29, or Fear, on July 28, a broad Bitcoin-focused sentiment gauge that does not measure demand for RLUSD or Upbit specifically.

Upbit did not disclose a launch-day liquidity commitment, a trading-fee change or a roadmap for further RLUSD products. The next useful disclosures will be the exchange’s market data, operational updates for deposits and withdrawals, and any evidence that the KRW pair serves payment, treasury or trading demand beyond the initial listing period.
