TL;DR

  • AI supplied nearly 88% of IREN's September-quarter revenue.
  • Mining revenue declined as the company converts capacity to AI.
  • Deployment timing and funding conditions remain central to the transition.

NEW YORK, November 6, 2026

IREN reported $200 million in quarterly AI Cloud revenue on November 5 as Bitcoin mining revenue fell 58% from the preceding quarter, highlighting the industry’s shift toward computing infrastructure amid a crypto market selloff.

The Nasdaq-listed company generated $228 million in total revenue for the three months ended September 30, its first fiscal quarter of 2027. AI accounted for approximately 88% of that total, but the business remained loss-making and a major deployment target moved into next year.

Bitcoin closed November 5 UTC at $75,969.06, down 5.544%, after touching $75,035.10, according to ChartExchange’s historical data. Those figures describe the broader mining backdrop, rather than a measured response to IREN’s results.

IREN AI revenue changes the business mix

In its quarterly announcement, IREN reported 182% sequential AI revenue growth and $28 million in mining revenue, versus $67 million previously. Co-Chief Executive Daniel Roberts attributed a revised deployment schedule to a customer-requested design change and supplier timing.

The September-quarter filing separates AI services revenue of $135 million from $65 million of AI lease revenue. Together they show that the transition includes different ways of earning money from computing infrastructure, rather than a single GPU rental stream.

The comparison with August shows how quickly the balance has changed. IREN’s previous results recorded $70.5 million of AI revenue and $66.7 million from mining for the June quarter. AI had already edged ahead then; the latest report widens that lead substantially.

Across the full fiscal year ended June 30, mining still generated $578.2 million against $128.8 million from AI. The September figures therefore describe a business whose latest operating mix differs sharply from its recent annual history.

That distinction also affects how mining revenue should be interpreted. Reallocating capacity can reduce mining sales even while another business expands. A smaller mining line alone does not establish that the same machines produced fewer coins because Bitcoin’s price fell.

The direction resembles Core Scientific’s shift toward colocation. Its latest official results showed $215.4 million of colocation revenue in $232.9 million of total sales. The business models differ, but both reports demonstrate the change through recognized revenue.

IREN’s run-rate target moves into 2027

IREN now targets January, potentially February, for more than $4 billion of operational annualized run-rate revenue, previously expected by year-end. ARR extrapolates contracted operating capacity across a year; it is not recognized annual sales.

The practical test is how much commissioned capacity becomes accepted service and then reported revenue. A target can be contracted without every installation being ready to earn its modeled revenue. Moving the deployment date also changes when that evidence becomes available.

August’s announcement had already warned that revenue would ramp following commissioning, testing and customer acceptance. The new timing should be assessed against those operating steps, rather than read as a promise that the full annualized amount will appear immediately in a quarterly income statement.

The filing says IREN aims to substantially complete its mining transition by December 31, while immaterial mining operations could continue through 2027. That leaves two schedules to monitor: the reduction of mining capacity and the acceptance of replacement AI capacity.

Those schedules need not advance at the same pace. In assessing the transition, the useful comparison is between capacity taken out of mining and the revenue earned after conversion. Contract announcements provide less evidence of that handover than completed commissioning and subsequent financial statements.

IREN funding claims have a defined scope

The company describes its targeted program as fully funded, subject to financing conditions. Its broader fiscal-year spending plan still includes $6 billion of targeted funding sources alongside $9 billion of cash, committed financing and prepayments.

That distinction separates funding for a specified deployment from financing the wider expansion. Available financing, contractual prepayments and unrestricted cash also serve different purposes; they cannot all be treated as cash already sitting in a freely usable bank account.

IREN reported a $263 million net loss. Its positive adjusted EBITDA excludes expenses that remain relevant to shareholders, so it does not establish overall profitability. The filing records $148 million of depreciation and amortization and $106 million of stock-based compensation.

The financing question extends beyond IREN. The sector’s funding gap as miners pursue AI makes delivery schedules and financing terms central to whether contracted demand becomes an operating business.

Meanwhile, Alternative.me’s Bitcoin sentiment index showed 28, or Fear, against 50 a day earlier when checked November 6 around 09:00 UTC. It measures crypto sentiment, rather than demand for IREN’s computing services.

The next checkpoints are customer acceptance, the revised deployment window and financing completed for the broader spending plan. The release does not establish the final terms of every targeted funding source or guarantee that operational targets will become revenue on schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much AI revenue did IREN report?

IREN reported $200 million in AI Cloud revenue for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, including services and lease revenue.

Why did IREN's Bitcoin mining revenue fall?

The company is reallocating data center capacity toward AI. Mining revenue fell from $67 million to $28 million sequentially, approximately 58%.

Is IREN's $4 billion ARR target recognized revenue?

No. ARR is an annualized operating metric, with deployment now targeted for January 2027 and potentially February. It is not GAAP revenue.

Is IREN already profitable?

IREN reported a $263 million quarterly net loss despite positive adjusted EBITDA. The measures account for expenses differently.
